There are a few basic tips that can be useful for anyone starting out with meditation:
1. Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. You don't need to be in a special position, but it should be something that you can maintain for a while without getting too uncomfortable.
2. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Try to breathe slowly and evenly, without forcing it. Just let your breath happen naturally.
3. Once you're focused on your breath, start to expand your awareness beyond just the feeling of the air moving in and out of your lungs. Notice the rise and fall of your chest, the sensation of your body on the surface beneath you, the sounds around you, etc.
4. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to focus on your breath. Don't worry if this happens frequently at first – it's normal! Just keep coming back to the breath whenever you notice that you've drifted off.
